TRACY MARION has been described as a
"fountain of movement". Numerous people have
been inspired from "her enthusiasm, professionalism, knowledge of the
art form, and [pure] talent". As a choreographer, she has
"identified a methodical approach to exploring creative expression".
Tracy Marion is the founder and Artistic Director of
MarioCo.Dance: The Valley’s premiere Contemporary Jazz
Company. Marion's training began 26 years ago. Her journey
took her from Celebrations Dance Company in Northampton, Massachusetts,
to NYC to study under Tisch residencies with David Dorfman, Sean
Curran, Ron Brown, Doug Elkins, and Doug Varone. After dancing in NY,
Marion trained, taught, and choreographed in Washington, D.C. under
Mary Buckley and Dana Tai Soon Burgess. In 2002, Marion's
performance career truly began as she worked with Rob Marshall
(Director of Chicago) and had the privilege of performing for Chita
Rivera at the Kennedy Center Honors. After her experience in
D.C., Tracy moved to Los Angeles where she taught in Santa Monica and
performed for local artists. She later moved on to receive her
Masters of Fine Arts in Dance & Choreography at the University of
Arizona in Tucson. Tracy went on to become a Master Teacher with
Giordano Jazz Dance Center (GJDC) in Evanston, Illinois teaching and
choreographing in the area as well as administering outreach programs
for GJDC at local elementary schools. She had the privilege of
setting multiple pieces on Giordano’s Second Company (G2) for Dance
Chicago. Her work appeared in the Dance Chicago Festivals in 2006 and
2007 where she was commissioned to create her work A Subtle Red Hope
for the Grand Finale.
Recently, Marion has developed The S.E.E.D. Method (Strengthen,
Elongate, and Exercise through Dance) for dancers and non-dancers
alike. Her Method is used to create a long, lean, and stronger body in
order to prevent injury and maximize flexibility and performance.
She is currently teaching and choreographing across The Valley
area. Marion has lately developed Foothills Academy’s Performing
Arts Program bringing Jazz, Ballet, Modern, Improvisation, S.E.E.D.,
and Choreography to the successful charter school. Tracy has
worked with Convergence Ballet Company for their August show and will
be choreographing The Music Man for director Scott Withers this Autumn
after her successful work on Bye Bye Birdie for Desert Foothills
Theater last Winter.
In addition to her dance background, Marion also has a degree in
Applied Mathematics from Smith College and is currently working as a
Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) in the Phoenix and Scottsdale
areas. She uses this background to develop and support the
MarioCo.Dance Outreach Program called ADAC (Applying Dance Across
Curriculums). Tracy is excited to be a member of the Plumb
family.
