Heather Harr BIO

Portrait of PPAC instructor Heather Harr.

Born and raised in Hawaii on the island of Oahu, Heather’s strong commitment to Ballet began at the age of 10. She trained exclusively with the Hawaii State Ballet, under the direction of John Landowsky for 8 years.  During which time she performed many classical roles regularly with their “ Junior Company”.   At the age of 18 she moved to the mainland to pursue a professional career.  Beginning in Connecticut with the Hartford Ballet for one season, followed by 5 years with Nevada Ballet theatre and finally ending in Arizona.  Heather is currently dancing in what is now her 6th season with Ballet Arizona.  Over the years some of Heather’s favorite roles and ballet’s have included, Balanchine’s Serenade, Rubies, Allegro Brilliante and Violin Concerto.  Val Canniparoli’s Going for Baroque, Peasant pas de deaux & Mertha from Giselle, Little swans from Swan Lake, Snow Queen & Arabian from The Nutcracker, Flower Girls (friends of Kitri) from Don Quixote, Courtesan from Ib Anderson’s Romeo and Juliet, among many others.

In the past two years, Heather has been very excited to be a key player in the construction of an entirely new summer dance company in the valley known as Nova Ballet. Helping to create the structure, decide on repertory and finding new choreographers and dancers from across the country.  As well as of course dancing and running rehearsals for the new contemporary company.

Heather has also enjoyed sharing her ballet knowledge over the years by teaching at various dance schools in Hawaii, Nevada and now Arizona.  She began teaching at Plumb Performing Arts Center in the fall of 2008.  Now embarking on her second year at Plumb she is looking forward to inspiring young dancers to find the same love and appreciation of this challenging art form that she did when she was their age.
